Barb Dick has lived in Moose Jaw since February 1988. Her life has been one of many changes. Barb came from a large family (8 kids) and parents who enjoyed moving often. While living in Alberta, Barb took a secretarial science course in Red Deer and then a medical secretarial course at Grant McEwan College in Edmonton and graduated in 1973. After working for several years in Victoria, BC, Barb felt that the Lord was leading her to take some Bible School classes at Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute in Camrose, AB. In the spring of 1975, she was hired as administrative assistant to the Division of Congregational Life in the head office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada which was situated in Saskatoon, SK. It was an exciting job handling all phases of congregational life. In August 1976 she married seminary student Alan Dick who was studying in Saskatoon. Alan graduated & was ordained in 1978 and was placed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Prince Albert. After three years of ministry there, they moved to Middle Lake, SK where they served at Faith Lutheran Church for 7 years before moving to Moose Jaw in February 1988. Pastor Alan was the pastor at Emmanuel for 2 years before his death in 1990. Barb has been employed as church secretary since November 1996, just as the church was preparing to move to their present location. Barb has three married children and five grandchildren.
